Overview

VaultBreak MR is a mixed reality stealth game built for Meta Quest 3S. The player's real room becomes a laser-protected vault through passthrough and room-aware route generation.

Sony Mocopi tracks the player's body so crouching, leaning, and stepping around lasers become part of the gameplay. Players can also shoot control boxes to disable selected laser sections.

The objective is simple: survive the security route, open the safebox, and grab the pearl before health reaches zero.

The hardware behind it

Two devices work together to turn the player's real room and full-body movement into gameplay.

Mixed reality headset

The headset shows the real room through passthrough, then overlays the lasers, vault, HUD, and other virtual objects.

Full-body motion sensors

Six small sensors worn on the head, wrists, hip, and ankles send the player's body movement into the game.

Quest displays the mixed reality world. Mocopi makes the player's whole body part of it.

My role

I developed the prototype as the project's XR Developer, connecting full-body tracking, mixed reality room data, and gameplay systems into one complete experience.

Full-body tracking

  • Sony Mocopi and Live Link
  • Seven body collision regions

MR gameplay

  • Room-aware security routes
  • Laser, health, and pistol systems

Game flow

  • Start and vault marker setup
  • Pearl objective and fail state

Project scope

I designed, developed, tested, and documented VaultBreak MR as my Final Year Project.

Outcome

The completed prototype combined Meta Quest passthrough, Sony Mocopi full-body tracking, and physical laser-dodging gameplay. Testing with 20 participants showed an increase in reported interaction confidence, while also highlighting calibration and usability as the main areas for improvement.
